TwinOxide—The Chlorine Dioxide Disinfectant

What is Chlorine Dioxide?

The chlorine dioxide molecule is small and volatile and is different from elementary chlorine. Chlorine dioxide is a gas at room temperature and can be dissolved within a solution. Because of this, surfaces treated with TwinOxide don’t need to be wiped off since there will be no residue is left after evaporation.

Chlorine dioxide has been used in water treatment and industrial settings for years, but because of its reactivity with open air, it was usually synthesized onsite as needed. Fortunately, years of advanced chemical engineering has yielded the buffered formulation of chlorine dioxide found in TwinOxide, allowing the solution to be bottled and stay potent and effective for longer than ever before.

TwinOxide remains more effective for longer than competing chlorine dioxide-based disinfectants because more chlorine dioxide molecules reach the application surface and aren’t off-gassed while in storage or immediately during application. This allows TwinOxide to have a lower concentration of chlorine dioxide, making it a safer, easier to use disinfectant.

Although chlorine can be found in the name, ready to use chlorine dioxide disinfectants are 0% chlorine, making it much easier and safer to use. When applied, the solution kills a full spectrum of bacteria, algae, fungi, spores, protozoan, yeast, pathogens, viruses, mold, and biofilm because of its unique oxidizing capacity. In contrast with many chlorine and chlorine-type disinfectants, TwinOxide doesn’t need to be wiped off after application and still remains non-corrosive.

How TwinOxide Works

When used, the TwinOxide (chlorine dioxide) solution reacts with the oxidizable compound material inside cells and cell membranes, disrupting cell metabolism and killing the pathogen. Chlorine dioxide also reacts directly with the bonds in amino acids and ribonucleic acid (RNA) in the cell. TwinOxide even kills inactive microorganisms, going further than non-oxidizing disinfectants which are unable to kill inactive microbes. The oxidative load placed on cells by TwinOxide means most microorganisms are unable to build up resistance to chlorine dioxide.
